Received this unit from a friend - both drives are wiped clean - partitions removed ready for a clean reboot.

System instantly goes into "6 red" error code upon booting. I know I need to flash the drives with the image files but I cannot get the unit to be recognized in TFTP and obviously NASNav.  I have the recent firmware files downloaded and have extracted the uBoot and uImage files.

Using TFTP - I have disabled all other network connections and AV software - set IP to 192.168.11.1

The PC I am using is Win10.  I have researched other threads and tried multipe avenues with no success.

Here's a thread with links to the procedure.

The files you need are uImage.buffalo and initrd.buffalo which can be loaded via TFTP or by directly loading them onto an EXT3 partition on the disk.

I suggest using two computers if possible.

Disable windows firewall on all computers that are used for the update.

You need to launch the TFTP app before you turn the nas on.

make sure you are running TFTP Boot.exe
and that the two boot files are in the same folder- with the exe.

make sure the TFTP server is set for 192.168.11.1 ip / 255.255.0.0 subnet
That's how I do it.

When successful:
You should see TFTP pass two sets of boot blocks.

The nas will switch over to a DHCP network after it boots.

And then flash from your main machine your firmware files are on.  I use debug mode and check all boxes on both sides of the screen.

Leave the TFTP server running until the process completes.  Some older units boot 2x from TFTP, as they don't setup the boot files on the first pass.

I've never gotten the manual install to ever work, no matter what I have tried.  TFTP should work, if it is configured correctly.

I have a TFTP Boot Recovery TS-WXL 1.04 fileset, though don't know if it works with that model.  I don't have a file set specifically for LS-WV.  Hopefully you can extract the files using that link in the other post.  The process does work.

Update - abandoned the desktop and used my laptop. all firewalls and AV are off.  I completely overlooked the EXT3 formatting - using some 3rd party software on the PC I got box drives formatted to EXT3.

Just a couple items to add to the steps if anyone has the same box - when you unzip the image files there will be two - "uImage-88f5182.buffalo" and "uImage-lsp.5.x.buffalo" - it is the second file you need and you may need to rename it to "uImage.buffalo"

I have been able to connect with TFTP and communicate with the box.  It seemed to do what it was supposed to - it transferred all the firmwares it seemd - however now I'm stuck in a reboot cycle on the box and cannot get TFTP to connect again.

do I need to reformat - re partition the drives again?

Boot loop is an odd result.

Yeah, either use the EXT3 method or try TFTP with completely blank drives.

Got it going - re-partitioned the drives - reran TFTP.  had to use TFTP a second run to get the system to write the firmware updates after reboot.

I've seen that before, where partitioning/formatting works on the first try but firmware install fails the first time. I should probably add a note about that somewhere.
