linkstation ls-wxl/r1 max drive capacity

Hi,
I have already post  this question on a different board.
Sorry, very inexperienced on forums matters!
Can anybody tell me the current max drive capacity for my linkstation ls-wxl/r1. Current firmware is 1.74. it has been working almost flawlessly with the same drives  (one 3 tb + 1 640 tb) for almost 8 years. I think it is time for an update.

You should probably delete the duplicate form the feature request board.

There is a little more to it than just drive capacity and there likely isn't an authoritative answer. There is generally a 16TB volume limit for this type of 32-bit device which would limit you to 2x8tb drives in an array though up to 16TB individual drives might work.

I believe that device/firmware can handle 4k sector sizes though I'm not certain for that one specifically.

I don't believe these devices have issues with the 3.3v power issue I've seen using older PC motherboards with new drives. Though if a new drive doesn't power up that's something to look at.

Any drive would need to be backwards compatible with sataII though I've never personally seen one that wasn't.

Beyond just whether it will work with the device you should look at how much power it needs and how much heat it generates and compare that to the drives you currently have.

If you're using RAID1 then yes, if using RAID0 then no. It has a max single volume size of 16TB.

Should be fine but again, there is a 16TB volume limit, shouldn't be an issue since you aren't using a RAID anyways.
