Buffalo TS-XL/R5 problem when adding domain users/groups

We have a Buffalo TS-XL/R5 station w/ firmware 1.06 configured with our AD successfully. Just needed some help with my problem.

  • When I start adding Domain Users or Domain Groups, sometimes the display is blank with no users. I have to close and re-login again or restart the station for it to display the users properly.
  • How do you change the access restriction of added users to Read/Write? The default is Read access and I can't seem to change it to Read/Write, there's no option to change?

Thanks

1st question:  You may have to do this when adding a domain user because the TS will have to repopulate the users.

2nd question:  You set up access restrictions (as well as read/write access) via the shared folders tab in the web interface.  Just click on the shared folder and set the user from "read only" to "read/write" access

Thanks for the reply. When I'm inside the shared folder, how do you change the permission of the user from "read only" to "read/write access"? I can put a check mark beside the user but only to remove it from the list. When I click the "Read Only" nothing happens. Am I just dumb or this version of TeraStation is just not user friendly compared with our old TS-H2.0TGL/R5 where I can easily configure R/W access.

btw, i just upgraded firmware from 1.6 to 1.10.

I am having the same problem.  In fact Buffalo replaced my unit thinking it was a hardware issue.

I can join the domain and see the Domain Groups, but when I go to look at the Domain Users, it is blank.  I tried rebooting and that didn't help populate.

I only have 474 user objects, so it's not that limitation.

This time around, I'm on 1.10 firmware.  That's what came on this box.  We tried a couple different firmwares the first time before they decided to RMA the unit.

Thats odd, when you click on "read/write" you should get a drop box that you can set to "read only" and if you have access restrictions set "use inherited folder permissions".  Makes sure the share is checked when you click on "read write".

I don't see anything talk about 'inherited folder persmission'.  I'm going to SHARED FOLDERS-->FOLDER SETUP then selecting a share.  From there I'm verifying that 'Read & Write' is selected as well as Windows Shared Folder Support.  I check ACCESS RESTRICTIONS and then select Domain Users.  I click add and it brings me up a blank list.  If I selected Domain Groups, then I'd see all my groups.

"I don't see anything talk about 'inherited folder persmission'"

Yeah, sorry it was a long night, i was thinking of web access...

"From there I'm verifying that 'Read & Write' is selected as well as Windows Shared Folder Support"

When you click on "read/write" do you get the option for "read only"?

"I click add and it brings me up a blank list.  If I selected Domain Groups, then I'd see all my groups"

Did you try what crysis said: "I have to close and re-login again or restart the station for it to display the users properly."  This is something that we will have to test for.

'Read' and "Read & Write" are just radio dials.

I've logged out and rebooted many of times.

What's frustrating is that we spent over 3 hours on the phone last time trying to get this to work.  I'm guessing that we'll have to do that again to maybe get somewhere.
