I have a 1.5TB LinkStation Live LS-CHL Multimedia Storage. I am going to use truecrypt software to format the drive and then encrypt it. I assume that this action will remove all the functions of the Nas drive such as Media server, bit torrent server etc. Once I use the truecrypt software to encrypt the drive can I still use the drive as a Nas drive that can be accessed from other network locations? Also can I get the drive back to its original default condition with all the features of the NAS drive? I have visited the buffalotech website and found a download for the linkstation live cd image. Will this cd image, link below, is what I require to restore the Nas drive back to its original state. http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/linkstation-live-ls-chl" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/linkstation-live-ls-chl Any help would be appreciated Ron

Once you use truecrypt, generally everything will be wipe out frm your LS including firmware, samba os etc etc...

The Linkstation live cd image is simply just the same softwares that you find in your LS live CD such as Memeo Autobackup, nasnavigator and manual. it will not restore the LS Live back to its original state.

If you want to go back to original state, you need to make sure that truecrype is no longer encrypting your hdd.

Pls make sure there are no data needed inside the LS Live.

Download a copy of tftpboot recovery for your LS Live model.

Download the latest firmware for your LS Live.

Run tftpboot.exe.A black windows will appear.

Set an IP address of 192.168.11.1 on your computer and connect it to your LS live.

Hold on to the Function button and power up the unit.

Wait awhile then let go of function button and it will turn blue.

2 lines will appear at the bottom of the window.

Wait awhile then run Nasnavigator.

Once Nasnavigator has found the LS Live,

proceed to update the firmware.

After updating you can use the drive thru the network.

Hello

Thanks for the reply.

The only information i now require is if I do use truecrypt software on the Nas drive, will I still be able to access the drive via the Lan using the ethernet cable.

Thanks
