Well, I did my best to try all the solutions and suggestions I could do on this forum, but it's still not working, so I'm posting my issue-

Background-

After moving to a new house, and a new installed network by ATT Uverse, my Linkstation Duo can't "see" the network (or the network can't see the Linkstation).

Now it did at first, there was a weird wiring issue where if I had my desktop connected to the network, and then I pluged in my Linkstation it would knock both off.  If I only had one item plugged in, it would work fine... and for the few times I just had the Linkstation plug-into the network, it would see it and I could copy files to my downstairs computer.  All this was happening before I did any reset or change any settings to the Linkstation.

I called up the ATT Uverse guys to fix the network jack issue so that both items could be plugged in and access the network without knocking anything else off.  Since then, that is when I can't get the linkstation duo on the network

Symptoms-

  • I have network cable plugged in to the linkstation and its powered up, but there is no green "link" icon below LED display
  • Both RJ-45 jacks are working, I can switch the desktop freely between the two jacks and get on the network and get online.
  • I've switch out multiple cat5 cables to test connection, they work for the desktop, but not the linkstation; so it's not a cable issue.
  • There are no error lights, just the green power button.  When I turn off the linkstation, after the lengthy shutdown the "link" icon appears for about 2 seconds and then it shuts off.  The icon doesn't appear again when I restart.

What I've tried -

  • Reset the router (physically and through the browser interface)
  • I've dissabled the firewall to my desktop (through the online router, and on my computer) which has the NASnavigator, but it sees nothing.  When it was last connected to my other router at the previous house, this wasn't an issue.
  • I've held down the function button for about 15 seconds to reset the linkstation (blue flash icon and then it turns green afterwards).  The power icon resents, but no link icon.
  • I can connect the linkstation to the my computer via the network cable and see it on the NASnavigator:
    • I finally get a link icon, but it's straight to the computer only, no network access
    • I can reset the IP address.  The Linkstation wants to go to 169.254.164.64 as a default.  Once I set it to the default, I can open the web admin for the linkstation and change the IP setting there.
    • Automatic via DCHP is on, I disconnect from computer and connect the network cable, restart... no link icon/not on network
    • If I disable DCHP, and enter IP address and the gateway on my own, I disconnect from computer and connect the network cable, restart... no link icon/not on network.  The network first registerd my linkstation as 192.168.1.70 before this problem started, this is the address I insert by hand; no link icon.  I've jump ahead to 192.168.1.75, but no link icon/not on network.
  • I've reset the linkstation to factory settings, switch cables to network, no link icon.
  • With the power off, I've held the function button for 5 second, turned on the power while still holding the function in... but nothing, no link LED/not on network.

Other notes-

All the other computers on the network work fine.  The network automatically picks up new additions like the PS3, Wii and the wireless laptop, and assigns an IP address without issue (wired and wirelessly).

I didn't set up this network, the ATT Uverse technician did, and all of the settings I can see are from the online router interface.  It's pretty basic, I can see attached computer, and set general firewall access items.  There's more detailed firewall access items, but it's all terminology I'm not familiar with.  The router is labeled as- 3800HGV-B Gateway

Again the network could see my linkstation at the beginning when only 1 item could be plugged into my 2 jack plate.  Once they fixed this (where 2 items could be plug in with full access), the network could no longer see the linkstation.  I don't know if the guy did anything to the router or network settings at that point.

Sorry for the long post, but it's becoming really frustrating, and I've been scouring this forums testing out different things to no avail.

Thanks,

michael

Hi Michael,

Are you able to test the LS on another network beside your home network?

Have you tried connecting directly to the LS from your computer to see if Link LED comes on?

Hit Tanjl,

I don't have another network at home to test it on, so I can't do that.

And I can connect the LS to my computers... and the LED light does indeed come on.  I can also transfer files and access the web admin when the LS is connected directly to the computer.  But the problem is that whatever settings I set for the LS in the web admin, when I disconnect it from the computer and then connect it to the network, the Link LED does not come on... and the network can't see the LS.
