Remote Admin over Low bandwidth

We just recently purchased the new 1TB Linkstations with the newer look NASNavigator2 (ver 2.14) and the new Web Admin GUI screens.  Model LS-HX1.0TL.  Firmware version 1.10.

Great product, screens look great and easy to navigate, but the "Loading Data" screen really makes it very annoying to perform any remote admin over a low bandwidth connection.  Heck, I'm on a decent DSL connection and getting frustrated waiting for the screen to re-paint multiple times when changing pages or clicking buttons.  I'm connecting to a remote computer via Remote Desktop and then using the Web Admin pages locally from the remote computer to the Linkstation.  Is there any setting to enable low bandwidth Web Admin?  I have the same problem with some routers. Developers think the graphics look "neat" and they do, but not when you have to wait 30-60 seconds for a screen to re-paint just to tell me that the page I requested is loading.  I should hope it is loading.  That's why I clicked the button.

There is no specific option of yet that allows you to set your device up for low bandwidth.  The one option you can control is the ethernet frame size.  With me connected to my device locally I am able to login to the gui in 4 seconds, and most screens take a few seconds to load.

FYI: Frame size has nothing to do with a remote connection!

Just wanted to follow up on my message above.  Since no option for low bandwitdh exists, please consider adding one in a future release.  It can be text based or command line.  While this may not seem important, it really is because repainting the screen is not only annoying on a slow connection, but could render the interface useless.  At a minimum, the current design seems a bit excessive.  For example, after logging in, the screen repaints SIX (6) times before you can even start using the interface.  1) Grayed out, Please Wait, Logging In screen, 2) Full color blank screen, 3) Grayed out, Please Wait screen, 4) Full color blank Folder Setup screen, 5) Grayed out, Loading Data screen, and 6) Full color Folder Setup screen.  Then, if I click the System menu, I get an additional THREE (3) screens before I can finally perform the desired task.

As I said before, the interface looks great, but please keep in mind that some people are using these in remote locations and need a no frills interface.  A nice looking interface only matters once...for the first impression.  After that, usability is much more important, and repainting a screen NINE (9) times before performing a single task does not help the usability factor.

Make sure that you put your request in the request thread. They get tallied up and then brought to our engineers.  The more request the better chance of getting what you need.:smileywink:
