Hey..

Recently bought a Linkstation Live. Ive setup the Linkstation to the router, and my desktop is also linked into the router for better connection speeds. But I am experiencing connection failure and very slow connection speeds, when the Linkstation have been on for a while.

I have disabled DHCP, so I have a static IP on the Linkstation. Might this be a problem??

PCPiranha

No that won't be a problem unless your having IP problems.  What is the IP of you computer and linkstation?

Poker

my IP is: 192.168.1.68, and the linkstation has: 192.168.1.65. while waiting for a reply I have tried bridging my wireless connection with the LAN, and since Ive been having less problems. Could this have been the issue??

PCPiranha

That couldve been the problem if you were double natting.  That would make a lot of sense.  let me know if the issue persists.

The problem seemed to go away, but now the issue is back. Have the wireless and the ethernet bridged, but Im having a lot of problems connecting to the drive and to its download manager. Also even though I have forwarded the ports to the Linkstation its still having problems connecting to public/anonymous torrents.

So Im back again, with exactly the same problem. Moved to a new house and had to setup the Linkstation again, and as before  initially there are good connnection speeds. This time Im going wireless since the router is somewhere else in the house. But when I start using the Linkstation for a while the connection speeds goes insanely down, and most of the time I cant even access the Linkstation.

Dustrega

When you bridged the LAN and wireless connections was that within the OS?

Poker

yeah, it was within the OS. Lately I have noticed that I get little more responds in the morning, and in the evening/night it is almost impossible connect to the linkstation.

Dustrega

Try disabling the bridge.  Something of that nature should be used when setting up a VPN connection and if not used for that purpose can cause more trouble than help.

Poker

ive had it disabled since I went wireless

Dustrega

Are you currently accessing the NAS by IP or NetBIOS name? Is it pingable? Can you access the GUI?

Poker

think im using the IP. I can acces the GUI, and the folders, but everything is just slow

Dustrega

There is a frame size setting within the Network settings of the GUI.  Have you changed that at any point?

Poker

yeah, I changed the frame size to 9,694 bytes (jumbo frame). thinking bigger is better?

Dustrega

Quite the reverse actually, could you try setting it to the default setting again and let me know what happens?
