Linkstation NAS auto connect with Vista

Everytime I start up my system, I'm forced to authenticate my connection with my Linksatation NAS before I can connect.  On XP I just started and the connection to the NAS was automatic.  What's strange is that I don't even have to put in the correct user name and password.  I can simply type one letter, press enter, and my connection to the NAS is established.

How do I configure to automatically connect?

Which linkstation do you have?  So you mean you have to reconnect the share everytime?

"What's strange is that I don't even have to put in the correct user name and password"  Are you talking about logging into the Web GUI?

We need more info on what you have so we can see whats going on.

NAS is connected to the network but I am required to input a user name and password in a network authentication pop up when I try to access the NAS.  I can type any letter into the user name, hit enter, and I'm connected to the NAS.

What do you mean when you try to access the NAS.  The interface or the share?

I can see the drive in my Network DevicesWhen I click on it, I am prompted an Authorization dialogue box with user name and password.

I store my pictures and music on the NASOn my WinXP machine, the NAS is automatically connected when I start up the computer so apps like iTunes and Photoshop can access the filesOn my new Vista machine, those apps can't access the NAS until I am authorized (enter a user name and password).  I want the NAS to always be accessible to the Vista machine without having to authorize.

Do you have access restrictions set?  When you map the share folder you should be able to check an option to "automatically reconnect at login".  Did you map it by IP or by name?

By name.  I tried mapping a file within the drive and checked the automatically reconnect.  Still doesn't work.  I just want to be able to turn on the computer, start iTunes and play files from the NAS.  Instead, I have to enter a user name and password before I can get access.  My WinXP computer automatically connects to the NAS when I start it up.  I've Googled and came up with some batch scripts that might solve the problem but that might be a little over my head.

Map it by just the IP address.  \\192.168.xxx.xxx

Thanks for all your suggestions. I still can't get it to work. I'm not claiming to be the most advance network achitect but I can usually muscle my way through most issues. It is just frustrating that I can't get this figured out. At the end of the day I can get access to my NAS so I guess I should be happy, it's just a pain to have to log on every time I start my computer.

There is a patch for vista and above related to how they talk to domains and workgroups. I have the same problem and it is annoying. Just found this today. I hope this helps you.

Changing this may also affect other connections such as work VPNs or the like, so keep that in mind if you use this fix and other types of logins fail or have issues.

Cheers!
