I have two HD-H1.0T GL/R5s they have been virtually trouble free except for one hard drive keeling over in '08, replacement could not have gone smoother (well maybe a few less screws:robothappy:).

That is untill two days ago. Drive light #1 was solid red swapped out the drive WD2500 same model as original. Turned the box back on, lot's o' blinking green lights, then drive #1 goes back to a solid red again.

Took the new drive out put it into an external housing checked it out on my main computer using MS Disk Manager, drive is good.

So the question is am I facing a failing board in the Terastation?

BTW just for kicks I put the old drive in the external housing and Disk Manager said all was healthy.

Firmware is 1.12

PCPiranha

It could be a bad controller or MB.

SteveLJ

So can that be replaced?

If so how much?

Where?

Etc.

SteveLJ

If I pull the drives from the one that is "not working" (NW) and replace the drives in the one that is working (W) with those from NW -in the same order- can I expect to see the data as it should be? NW is/was the back up for W.

Or

If I replace e.g. drive #1 in the working machine with drive #1 from the not working machine will the data/raid be the same or will it try to reformat/rebuild the RAID (using RAID 5)?

PCPiranha

If the raid configuration is the same on the two, it should work.  When you put the new disk in did you restructure it into the array?

SteveLJ

As the drive light was red, I could not restructure the RAID or do anything.

So what, if any, are the chances of getting the non-working one repaired?

Does BuffaloTech sell refurbished units?

No we do not you could go to a retailer tho and maybe pick one up.
