Shared Folder Too Small On Linkstation Quad

I have a new Linkstation Quad 6TB (4 x 1.5TB) with firmware 1.11.

The Quad is set up as a Raid 5 under Raid Array 1 and has been checked to be fine (after a 38 hour disk check). The Nas Navigator (ver 2.16) shows 4168.4 GB available on the drive. I have set up a shared folder and connected to it with my late 2007 iMac under Mac OS 10.4.11. The Mac can connect to the shared folder without any problems but there seems to be a restriction with the shared folder size (shown under the Finder to be only 72.5 GB large). Attempts to copy my Mac folders larger than the shared folder size have given me an error message stating there is insufficient disk space (even though there is more than 4TB available).

I have tested copying smaller folders eg 3GB across to the shared folder in the Quad with no problems so this appears to be a problem with the limited size of the shared folder. Further shared folders created have the same size limitation. Is there any way to resolve this such as specifying the size of shared folders? I have tried to research this both on this forum and through Google but to no avail.

Clearly I would hope to organise my files based on a logical basis eg video in 1 folder rather than having to create hundreds of shared folders to utilise the entire available space in the NAS so this is a particularly critical problem.

Would be grateful for any help given.

Thanks very much.

Just a quick update ... have asked local Buffalo support to contact Buffalo for further assistance on this (they have no idea how to resolve this). Will post Buffalo's response when I get it. Was told this might take some time (typical .... they promise the world when getting you to buy the Linkstation but aren't there for you when you need them).

In the meantime, if anyone can help or offer any advice, would be very grateful. Have a very substantial paperweight in the Linkstation at the moment if this can't be solved. Aarrgh!!!

Hi KMC:

Same issue, did buffalo ever get back to you?

Thx for the reply PCPiranha! Is there a limit to SMB?

PCPiranha

No, not that I have heard of, just trying to get more information.  Have you tried AFP, do you get the same results?

jguzman40

Sweetness! AFP did the trick!

To use AFP share:

On finder click on GO

"Connect to server"

Thx! PCPiranha!

Sounds great. Will give it a try when I get back home later today. I've been using SMB too so perhaps AFP is the solution. This will save me a long car journey I've arranged this weekend to my local Buffalo service shop. Thanks very much to PcPiranha and jguzman for your input. I had given up hope of getting a response to my problem on this forum (and also in Buffalo) so this is a very much welcome change. Cheers! :smileyvery-happy:
