Linkstation Quad stripping properties from .AVI files

I have a 2Gig Linkstation Quad NAS that I've begun moving files to.  The NAS software singled out all of my .AVI files (taken with a small digital camera) and asked me if I was sure I wanted to copy this file without its properties. I said no, let the remaining copy process finish, then went back and copied one .avi file.

It copied the file and most of the file properties like size and  but changed the date of the .AVI from Jan 6th, 2008 (the day it was created) to July 24th, 2008 (the day this file was apparently modified. When I looked at the properties of the file I copied to the NAS it had the July date for the created date, modified date and accessed date. I like to keep my photos and videos taken with my camera organized by date taken. This will change all my .AVI files to the modified date.

I also noticed that copying the .AVI files to the NAS changes the attributes of the file to archived.  I can go back and change this to un-archived with no problems.

Any ideas on how to stop this, or how to change the created date back to the original date once the file is copied?

Thanks!

Just need some info from ya.  Firmware and what kind of backup you are creating?

Sorry about that.  I updated the firmware when I installed the NAS two days ago.  I now have Firmware Version 1.10 and NasNavigator version 2.11.  I'm setup with the default Raid 5 and the backups I'm doing are simply moving my photos and videos over to the NAS from my laptop and a portable hard drive attached to the laptop.  At the moment I have stopped transferring files until I figure out what's going on.

Thanks

Bump...

I still have the issue I described in the original post.  Even after I had the latest firmware upgrades.  Any ideas on what I can do?

Thanks.

First and foremost I would perform a re-initialization of the unit (WebUI->Maintenance->Initialization) and then double check the time settings in the Basic section of the WebUI. Post back your results from there please.

Dustrega,

I've followed your recomendations but nothing has changed. The re-initialization went fine, and on the Basic section of the WebUI it shows the current date and time. I also have the correct UTC offset. This matches the current date and time of the computer.  When I copy a file to the NAS it will initially show the current date and time in the "Date Modified" column of the folder I'm moving my files to, however when the file is finished transferring, the date and time reverts back to the date listed in the Modified: section of the files properties.  On the original file, there is a created date, a modified date and an accessed date all of which are different.  When I copy the file to the shared drive of the NAS these three dates and times all take on the properties of the original files "modified" date and time. On my first two attempts at copying video files I was  trying to move .AVI files.  I have since noticed that this same problem also happens when I copy Quicktime .MOV files. This also happens when I MOVE a file as well.  I noticed that when moving or copying the .MOV files, I didn't get the message asking me if I was sure I wanted to copy the file without it's properties.  If I move or copy the video file to another folder on the source harddrive, in this case, my laptop, it changes the created date and accessed date to the current (todays) date. Only the Modified: date doesn't change. Hope this helps the troubleshooting. I have a small JPG screen capture that illustrates the difference between the properties of the original file and the file copied to the NAS but I don't think I have rights to post pictures in this forum.  I'd be happy to send it email if you'd like.

Thanks for your help in advance
