Disconnecting Drive

Hey all, I have a LS-WTGL80E firmware 3.09 and it keeps disconnecting.
I have a netgear router that I'm using as a WINS server. I had my linksys dynamic and now it is static. I read in the forums someone recommended putting it that way, but it is still disconnecting. Also, the firmware is at the lastest version, so I don't think that is it.
I copy over a lot of information (large gig movies). If I transfer one over or watch one, it locks up on me. I'm connected at 100. I've tried connecting and running movies though the ip instead of name and it is erroring out. The lat thing I did was a ping of the drive while coping. I didn't get a disconnect of the ping, but I got an error the network name is no long available. It is the same when copying it using the IP address. Also, I get a disconnected drive in my computer and it hangs a lot.
I'm working on getting a server in, but it should work without it.
Any thoughts?

When you mapped the drive did you make sure that you checked the box for reconnect after log on?

sounds like wat im encountering now... when copying files in/out of the shared folder, i keep getting disconnect error but the link and network is still up cos i can ping except that the shared drive seems to be gone.  but when i go back into windows explorer, it will slow/hang for a while and then the shared folder comes back online.

funny thing is that it was ok for last 2 weeks.  i only get it 2 days ago and nothing changed.

im on ls quad 1tb, latest firmware from web.

Go ahead and dissconnect all your drives and restart your PC.  Power cycle your modem and router. Remap the drives and make sure that you have the box checked for reconnect after logon.  If that doesnt work then your firmware could possibly be corrupted and you might have to reflash it.

I brough everything down and back up. I disconnected the drive and reconnected it. I couldn't find the auto-reconnect option though. Right now, I'm running a full virus scan. If I have something running that might be hoggin up resources, I could see where that would be causing troubles. I checked the status of the router and I have green lights on all connections. I read somewhere that I should change the cable. Do you think that would make a difference? I don't really want to invest more money if I don't have to.

Do you have any other PCs on the network that are experiencing the same behavior? If not I would check the power save functions on your network adapter in Device Manager. If so I would try swapping the ethernet cable if you haven't already.

i had this problem sometime back and got it sorted out...  it was caused by my low end notebook, running too much data transfer over the nic.  not sure why but when i tried a copy of the same file but using my pc, it was ok.

when i tried on my netbook, it will disconnect if im running heavy torrent or another file copy over the nic.  stop all activities and it was ok.

on my pc, same load as netbook or notebook, still ok.  did not have time to try the limit.

Sounds like the issue might stem from that notebook then. Might want to check your onboard ethernet and chipset drivers as necessary from your computer manufacturer.

Well, it has been a while. I got kicked out for a while were I couldn't log in to the web panel any more. I tried to turn off everything I could. It isn't a media server any more. I loaded the program on a second computer and it didn't work. I changed cables. I changed ports on the router. I did find something interesting, if I turn it off and back on it seems to work better for about a minute or two. I turned off all other computers on the network. When I get time, I'll put it right on the computer and test it. It is getting pretty frustrating. I can't even get into the web portal for more than a couple minutes. I also can't play music in winamp with out it dying. Any other things I can try before I have a very expensive door stop? Probably my next best thing is a different router. If you have model recommendations, that would be nice. I"m currently using a netgear rangemax. Also, I downloaded and ran a networking program. It didn't find any lost packets in my network. I can't find any spot with collisions.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
