Accessing webadmin on an LS-CHL 1TB linkstation

I've just installed one of these, and have problems accessing webadmin from any of the entry points using IE (IE7) - IE because that's the browser that the button or links startup.  I tried using firefox (which is the preferred browser on my PC) with the same <manually inserted> IP address data and it worked frst time.

Searching the solved threads database for this topic, it seems this is common and Firefox is the Buffalo preferred browser, and I can't argue with that.  BUT if that's the case why does clicking the webadmin button or links automatically open IE7 and then fail on time out???

The Navigator version is 2.10RC4 and the LS firmware version is 1.02

Thanks

First of all, I'd recommend upgrading the firmware on your device.

IE 7 works fine with my LS-CHL... I suspect a security setting is causing it. Try disabling firewalls and antivirus. Let us know how that works out.

I logged on to the Buffalo website to get the firmware download, but the serial number (14 digits from the box and device, matched) was rejected by the website as invalid???

Any suggestion as to why is it so?

you dont need to enter the serial number to download the firmware!

Here's the direct link for you, davidk. NOTE: THIS FIRMWARE IS ONLY FOR LS-CHLs PURCHASED IN AUSTRALIA! If you purchased it elsewhere, please download it from the correct region's site.

I think you either picked the wrong product, or the wrong download. The firmware doesn't require a serial number.

HI,

Thanks for the responses.

For Davo ..

Whilst I agree your remarks in principle, at http://www.buffalotech.com/support/validate/?MTIwfGxzY2hsLTEwNy56aXA=

you'll find that a serial number is a required input to get the firmware update. The product in question is actaully an LS-CH1.0TL-AP according to the box, but the AP suffix is missing on the only 1Tb device option listed.

For Colin137 ...

Thanks for the tip re a 'local' support site.  I've downloaded the 1.07 update and extracted it.  Before I apply, is there a way of saving the previous version ???

Well,.. . it's done.  but not without some palpitating heart beats. .. .

The updater loaded OK.  No warning or error messages, everything looked OK, LS re-booted and - blank screen on Navigator2.

Closed device down - used rear power switch to turn it off (mains still on), and after several minutes turn it back on again.  Again, device rebooted but still nothing on the nav screen.  However, did observe that the shares were intact and observable from the desktop LS icon.  Finally, remembered a refresh option in the system tray navigator icon, rt click.  Did this and the Navigator details came on back.

I would suggest that the 'how to' updater notes in the package could do with a bit more detail on the process to avoid the heart stoppers I had after all had gone well only to deliver a blank screen on the device in the management tool.

Back to square one ... using the navigator to start webadmin.  Clicking that button still auto starts IE and then times out.  Manually inserting the ip address into the Firefox address bar fires it up immediately.  Not a real issue for me now I know about it but since the main browser settings are set in windows control panel, regardless of which one is prefered, clearly there's some quirks there.

Cheers

Davidk
