Scheduled Backup between two LS-CHL500L

Hello,

We have two LS-CHL500L (firmware 1.07) on our network and we want to schedul a backup from one to the other. But we have 2 problems. We have always an error when the backup task starts (not always at the same time) :

 ...

rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes [sender]: Invalid argument (22)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (70 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(635) [sender=3.0.3]
...

And the LinkStation (the one where the scheduled task is running) is unreachable on the network (NasNavigator2 see only one LinkStation). We need to switch off/on to see again the LinkStation.

If someone has an idea, thanks in advance.

Regards.

What kind of Backups are you making and how are you setting them up (times, etc....)

kirk54

I've added one folder (which contains folders and files, of course) to the backup source. The backup operation mode is "Overwrite Backup (Complete/Differential). I've made a test with Backup Job Schedule to "Immediately" and "Every day", same results.

Thanks you.

Which version of NASNavi2 are you running?

kirk54

2.18, but i think it's not a problem of NasNavi2, when i explore the network the linkstation is note visible after the "crash".

Post IP's / subnets / gateways of both devices please. I take it they are both on the same local network using the same subnet?
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebsireland.com and we will get it fixed!

Have i helped you? Buy me a coffee as a thanks!

The backups are really useful in the critical situations. It makes you to get out of the difficult times. It gives some experience in the scheduled work.

kirk54

Yes, both devices are on the same network :

191.168.1.4/255.255.255.0/192.168.1.1

191.168.1.11/255.255.255.0/192.168.1.1

DHCP is ON in our network. I don't know if it can be a problem ...

We have always a linkstation in our office, which contains a backup of all PC's. And each monday the boss comes with another linkstation to backup the first linkstation. That's why we want to schedule the backup process.

kirk54

I've made another test with only one LS on our network. And the result is the same. When i start a backup on my PC (with Cobian Backup or another), the problem is the same, copy errors and LS is out (need to restart the LinkStation). This problem occurs only when the copy process is FROM the LinkStation TO a PC (or another LinkStation). We don't have problems when we backup our PC's to the LinkStation.

Very strange, and very disappointed  ...

You might want to download the 1.07 firmware and reflash it again.  Other than that you will have to give us sometime to look into this for you.

kirk54

I will lose all settings if i reflash it ?

JoshC

Unfortunetly you will lose the settings but not the data.

kirk54

I've forced firmware update with the fimware V1.07, and the result is the same. I've made the following test :

- LinkStation contains a folder (111 Mo, 3022 files and 206 folders).

- i start CobianBackup to backup this folder on my PC (on the same network)

- after 1801 files copied, Cobian say that "The specified network name is no longer available"

And after, we need to restart the LS.

This week-end i've tried to backup the LinkStation in another network (a workgroup network, 10/100, while at work the network is limited to 10), and the result is the same. After a while (during the backup process), the LS is no longer available.

From these tests we have no confidence in these boxes. Unfortunately we bought two units ...

Just a shot in the dark but have you tried another backup software, just to rule that out as a possiblitys?  I know its pulling straws!  How much are you trying to back up and one time?  Many smaller files or large files?
