My Desktop won't recognize my HDS-PHU2 320 Ministation Device Driver already running?

I installed my external Buffalo HD HDS PHU2 Ministation 320GB on my IBM Thinkpad with WinXP Pro successfully and used Windows backup to backup my data.  My laptop has now died and I'm trying to install the ministation on my Dell Desktop 8250 with winXP pro and it won't recognize it.  I keep getting an error message indicating Windows cannot load the device driver for this device because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.  I then used the Windows Device Manager to uninstall the device and try again.  It seems to install then asks me to reboot.  Then I cannot access the drive and it won't show up on my computer.  How can I fix this?

Try plugging in the extra power cable that came with the unit.  Does it show a filesystem in disk management?
