Linkstation Pro LS-XH1.0TL with firmware 1.10

It will not turn off, regardless of the switch position. It just keeps running with the blue status LED flashing rapidly. It doesn't show up in NAS Navigator.

Thats odd, how long have you given it?  This could be a sign of future issues

Well, it's still going. I guess about 4-5 hours with switch in off position. I need to erase my personal data before I return it. Your phone support said I could plug it straight into my computer and NAS Navigator would connect. Any thoughts?

Can you get to the User Interface of the unit?  If you can just delete the array.  If you cant then you dont need to worry about your "personal data"  those HD when they get to us are striped clean.  Those are the only two options.

What are the IP settings for my computer? It's plugged straight into my NIC, and ....nothing. Should the switch be set to "on" or "auto"?

What if I open it up and install the hard drive in my computer and try to erase that way? then I'll put it back in and send it back.

I cannot send this data to anyone. If Buffalo cannot provide another option then I guess I'm out $275. I really can't afford that with my current financial situation.

Does the unit boot up?  If it won't shut off there isn't much of an option besides pulling the plug.  Then just try rebooting it and deleting the array as Josh C said.

Thanks, PCP. On advice from Buffalo email, I "pulled the plug". Subsequently, it would not boot. So they advised performing a hard reset as follows:

"> I would recommend try to do a hard reset on the unit.
> No data will be lost during this process.
> To do this boot the unit while holding down FUNC. Release the FUNC key when  the blue light is blinking.
> Then wait about 7-8 seconds, then press the FUNC button one more time. Don't hold it, just press it.
> Next wait for the blue light to become solid.
> Now the unit should be reset."

I would add that the "blue light" referred to is not the Status LED, but the blue light inside the "Function" button.

It is working properly now with data intact. Any advice on exchanging vs. keeping?

Just watch the behavior, a factory reset could fix the issue.  Does it shut down now?

Yes, it shut down on schedule last night.
