Copying Files Onto Linkstation

Just got a Linkstation Pro LS-XHL 1.0 to use as a file server. I have a USB external drive with all of the data. Problem is, when I connect the two and try to dump all the files onto the Linkstation, the transfer is so slow that it says it will take 100s of days to complete the copy. It is only 300gb of data, which I moved in a few hours through my laptop (one drive on eSata and the other on USB). I have tried the direct copy function and it does not do anything, no files copy.

Can I connect the Linkstation to my laptop via Ethernet and copy the files that way? I kinda need access to the data and am hoping there is a quick solution that my muddled head has missed.

Thanks!

Yes, that would actually be your best option.  The device is a Network attached storage device.  I am surprised that the device is actually recognizing the drive.  The external I take it formatted into Fat32 or NTSF?

Pretty sure it is NTFS. It is odd, it sees that drive, but not an internal I put into an enclosure. Taking data from a dead desktop (thank god for data drive separate from system drive), copied to external that the Linkstation recognize, now to copy onto the Linkstation.

So Ethernet from laptop to Linkstation and eSata from external to laptop, and copy through the laptop?

Awesome, thanks, I will try that.

**EDIT

Just connect the Linkstation via Ethernet directly to my computer, all seems good, copying has started.
