How to backup a 2TB Link Station Pro ??

Hi,

I just got the 2TB Link Station Pro and want to setup the USB Backup.

 

my first problem is that I got a 2TB Buffalo USB drive station to use for the backup...but

the Link Station hangs up on anything bigger than a 1 TB size. (there is a problem with the firmware in the Link Station it just hangs with a 2TB partitioned USB drive connected)

 

so the second problem is when the 2 TB USB drive station is configured as 2 x 1 TB drives, it shows up ok on XP as 2 drives, but the Link Station only sees 1 drive. Bug ???

 

Thinking now the only solution is to plug in 2 x 1 TB USB drives, since there are 2 USB ports on the Link Station.

 

Anyone have any suggestions on backup for the 2 TB Link Station ???

The linkstation can only see one partition on an attached USB drive, that is why when you spliced them to two 1TB partitions it can only see one.

 

What format is the external USB drive in?

the external USB was formatted as FAT32.

 

I was hoping to format them to XFS once connected to the Link Station, however, if I configured the external drive as a single 2TB partition, the Link Station would freeze (until I unplugged the external drive).

 

As two 1 TB partitions on the external USB, the Link Station read the drive ok. so seems to be a firmware problem in the Link Station for the 2TB external.
