DriveStation Duo -- Japanese

   Hello All, Going to buy DriveStation Duo in Japan (there is a reason for it). Wondering if I could work with it on an English Vista Business. Being confused by the fact that the box of the product is only in Japanese, same as instruction manual. I could read some words in English on the box -- it states "We support Japanese OS only". The Q is what it means: 1) that the device will not work with English OS 2) that the device will work with English OS if I download all software in English. If the answer is (2), do I need to download English firmware? (and where to find it?) Many thanks in advance for any help

The software that comes with the Japanese DS Duo will be in Japanese. "We support Japanese OS only" refers to the Japanese technical support division, but may apply to the software as well.

 

The device itself should work fine with an English OS, but as the software is restricted by serial number, the Japanese device's serial number will not work on the US site. I recommend either purchasing the device from a US vendor, or contacting Japanese tech support to see if they can provide you with an English software version.

I understand I can get the device, download s/w from the US site and use it without trouble.

 

Can you please clarify on 2 issues:

 

1) Do I need to enter a device serial number to be able to download s/w from the US website of Buffalo?

 

2) Is the firmware of a device sold in Japan might in any event prevent me from working with it on an English Vista?

The Japanese unit comes with different software in the US and Japan. The Memeo backup software as supplied in the US requires a product key not included with the Japanese unit.

 

The Japanese firmware should not stop you from using the unit with English Vista. In worst case you could apply the English firmware (check on this site on the availability).

The firmwares are the same as far as I know. The only issue would be the RAID setup software. The Drivestation Duo RAID software is available on our website. It may or may not work with the Drivestation TurboUSB (2x500).
