Undisclosed share folder

Hi all,

Yesterday I unpacked my new HS-DH1000GL. It did not work out of the box and I had to call tech support twice. First it turned out to be in recovery mode for some reason, and I had to upload the firmware (version 2.11), then I had to switch the interface language from Japanese to English.

Today I tried adding and deleting a new share. When I tried deleting it, the unit hung, I rebooted it, after which the original, default share disappeared as well. I had some data there, and I can see that there is still used space, but the share is not accessible any more and under "shared folders setup" web interface page I can see it as "Undisclosed share folder". I tried to edit it -- the name is blank, and I can enter it, but it does not get saved. Rebooting the link station does not change this.

So far I've wasted a lot of time on this thing, and am tempted to throw it out. It was a gift from someone, otherwise I'd try to return it. Don't have a very good feeling about data security. Is it possible to recover my data from this "undisclosed share folder"?

Thanks,

Sergei

Try recreating the share folder, if that doesn't help try resetting the unit.

Thanks, but it seems that I am unable to create any more shares, they just don't show up. All I am left with is this undisclosed share folder. Also, I don't see how recreating the folder can possibly help recover the data.

As I wrote, I did try rebooting the unit (if that's what you mean) but that did not change anything.

Rebooting and resetting are different..  Hold down the reset (or init) button on the back of the unit for 20 seconds, while the unit is booted.  You can also initialize the unit through the web interface.

Thanks. Here's what I tried (and it worked). I clicked on "restore" button on the maintenance page. After this, the unit rebooted and all the shares were gone. I recreated the "share" folder and my data were there.

Does "restore" through the web interface perform the same function as the reset button? If so, does this mean anyone can just reset the unit and recreate any share and get access to it?

PCPiranha

Yes that is the same as the reset.  How did you delete the share?  Did you just right click on it or actually delete it from the web interface?

sergivs

I did not delete it. It just became "undisclosed" after I deleted another one.

PCPiranha

It might be file corruption, it's kind of hard to know for sure.  How did you delete the other share folder?  I can test this issue for you if you want.

Thats odd, I will try to do some testing.
