Linkstation mini, OS X 10.5.7, and authentication

Hi,

 

I have a LS-W1.0TGL/R1 "Linkstation Mini" 1TB NAS drive. For months, it's been working beautifully. However, after upgrading to OS X 10.5.7, I wasn't able to mount **certain** folders from the drive over the network.

 

I read through the forums and found some other folks with this problem. One of the solutions suggested was to update to the latest firmware. Previously, the drive was running 1.03 and I upgraded it to the latest 1.06. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem.

 

Specifically, I realized that the problem _only_ surfaces for shared folders that have "Access Restrictions" enabled. Previously, I was able to authenticate and mount these shared folders, after upgrading to 10.5.7, I simply got an error message like so (screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/c8zALGh4N).

 

When I remove the access restrictions so that anyone can access the shared folder (not ideal!), then I'm able to access the folder again. 

 

I tested mounting **with** access restrictions enabled on my wife's MBP running an older version of OS X and it mounted just fine. 

 

Obviously, now that I can access the shares, the issue isn't exactely "urgent," but it would be nice to know how to get around that problem in the future.

P.S. Also, once I updated the firmware to 1.06, I noticed a new shared device show up in my finder called LS-WSGL6E4-TimeMachine. And, when I checked Time Machine, it was able to see that device as a back up option. Just wondering where the announcement about this new feature is?

Are you connecting to the device via SMB or AFP? See if it happens with the other protocol.

 

I'll do some testing on my end.

I just performed a quick test using Mac OS 10.5.7, Linkstation Mini, and connecting via SMB, I had no problems getting to a share with access restrictions enabled. Please post the details of your Linkstation's configuration.

The LS is configured as a RAID1 (mirror) with several shared folders. What else would you like to know about the configuration? 

Per your previous note, I tried AFP and SMB, and neither would allow me to connect.

In the screenshot, it references "backup_ps". Is that the name of the shared folder you're trying to connect to?
