Disk error even with new disk

I've got a Buffalo Linkstation LSWVL-73B.  Firmware version 1.74. Two disks, operating in RAID 1.  It's showing Disk 2 Error and flashing the I12 code for degraded RAID.  I pulled disk 2 and ran the full set of Western Digital lifeguard diagnostics on it.  It passed all.  I reinstalled the disk and still had Disk 2 Error. I ran Rebuild Raid Array.  It completed in about 10 hours and appeared to solve the problem.  However it returned 6 hours later just as before. I swapped out disk 2 for a brand new disk, ran Rebuild Raid Array and the exact same thing occurred.  Any ideas on a cause and solution?

Bad drive. Replace it regardless of what lifeguard says. if you attach it to your computer and run CrystalDiskInfo I'd bet money it's in caution status.
**A single copy of data, even on a RAID array, is NOT a backup! Hard drive failure is not a question of IF, but WHEN! Don't take my word for it, take Google's!**
