Web Access unable to play .avi files

Hello,

 

I wanted to know if anyone can help, I've setup webaccess and its working ok but i cannot open .avi files. unfortunaltey this is the open type of file i'm trying to access. I can open other media\text files ok. When i click on the filename nothing happens for a while then the next page that loads is "Internet Explorer cannot load the webpage"

 

anyone else experiencing similar problems??

Are you clicking on the "open" link or the filename?  You should just click open and it should just start downloading.

I share video files via web access all the time.  I've tried (successfully) .avi's, .mpeg2's, .mp4's, and .wmv's.  The only consideration I have to make is to be sure that the viewing computer has the right plugins installed for the specific video format I'm trying to share.

I click on the link and then get the "Page cannot be displayed" message.

 

I am using Windows Media Player version 11

Does this happen locally as well as remotely?

I have now managed to get this work internally on my network on a XP laptop running VLC player, but cannot get to work across the internet on another machine.

try to right click on the open link, and copy link location. Then open WMP, go to File->Open URL, and paste the link in the window. It will prompt you for the username and password, but once that's done it will start streaming.The success you have with streaming videos will depend on how good the upload bandwidth your ISP provides you is.
