e-mail notifications stop working

I have a linkstation that was sending e-mail notifications every day.  Now they have stopped, my e-mail settings are the same since I am able to send e-mail through my e-mail client, but when I try a test message from the linkstation it will fail, but will NOT give me a reason why, just states sending failed.   Any ideas???
