Removing HD

I have a dual HD NAS and it is working just fine. However, I wanted to access some information on one of the drives by pulling out the drive and just connecting directly to my Mac. When I did this I was unable to access the drive as my Mac said it was not readable. I just wanted to pull off some information without having to wait too long. In other words I wanted the files fast. Not NAS slow. Is there a way to access the drive directly without having to use it only as the NAS server drives? So for now I will put the drive back and then access the slow way. I wanted the RAW image files. Since they are RAW files the NAS web app does not read RAW. It can access JPG but not RAW. It might be a good idea to incorporate a way to read raw in an image file.

Thanks
Pete :)

What makes you think you can read a disk from any manufacturer when the disk has been used in a NAS?

The disks are XFS formatted that the MAC cannot read. If you want higher transfer rates then setup your network correctly, don't use WiFi and use gigabit cables / routers / switches etc.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebsireland.com and we will get it fixed!

Have i helped you? Buy me a coffee as a thanks!

Because I can take a PC disk and plug it in and open it from my mac. Thats why I think that. I saw no indication that I could not so such a thing. Apparently they are formatted in a way they can't be used that way if so desired. Pitty.

As for setting up correctly, it is. The NAS I have is to be connected to my wireless router. It is model: LS-WVL/E
It is fully setup correctly and working. I was accessing a large 80g file and just wanted to access it faster directly rather than the wireless network. Beyond this, I am not going to set up an elaborate home NAS. I was just expecting that I could remove a drive and plug it in like any external drive and access it directly. Normally I would just leave it alone.

I said pitty above because if I have a drive crap out and I need to recover the contents on the NAS drives I should be able to access it directly so my recovery software can recover what ever it can before the drive is tossed out. But as it sits I'd have to reformat it first and hope that the reformat would not destroy any information.

Just a thought to those that have failed NAS drives.

What do you do to recover from a failed NAS drive?

Backup is on the NAS.

Ok, so now I have resolved that its not possible to remove the drive to gain access to my stuff from my own drive quickly. So I started to download my Photos albums that I copied over to the NAS for safe keeping. I selected the file with all the photos and let it down load. When it was done downloading it had a problem of opening the zip file. Said there was not enough information to do that. Now that just sucks. I put stuff on my drive successfully and can even see the JPG images but not the Raw images but it won't let me download a large file. I was successful at downloading 10 Raw files but any more than that it has not worked. So I guess I am resolved to pull the images 10 at a time. When I am done I will reformat the drive and remove the drive from this device. I won't be using my two new 4T drives in this device. I will find a better way to backup and serve my files. But not from a drive I can't access properly. Sorry Buffalo, I gave you a try but in light of this I won't be using your equipment. Thankfully I did not spend too much on the box.
