Linkstation LS-WX2.0TL/R1 will not upgrade

My linkstation LS-WX2.0TL has the yellow "INFO" LED illuminated.  It is also sending desktop messages saying that a message has been logged.  Finally, in the web interface, It notifies me that a new version of the firmware is available in a banner box at login as well as a "New Firmware Available!" link in the left margin.   Clicking that link pops you to the Maintenance screen but there are no firmware upgrade controls.  I've clicked it a multitude of times with different web browsers (Firefox/IE).

I am on firmware 1.61 currently.  Is there a way to:
1) get the Firmware Upgrade to actually take place
2) short of that, extinguish the LED and stop the nag messages to my desktop.

I have two Buffalo drives on my network. One, an LS-X3.0TL, stopped communicating (see my other thread), and the other one shows the same problem as yours. In my case, I can open the software interface on the unit and tell it to upgrade the firmware, but it just sits at the "downloading" stage and won't go any further. I haven't bothered contacting Buffalo because I know it is out of warranty and so their standard response is to check on the forums.

I am not happy with Buffalo right now after these two problems occurring at once (with one drive dead and the other not trustworthy). I plan to replace them both with something from another company.

Yes, I 've see a couple of instances of this behavior.  Would be nice if someone in the know here could shed some insight in how to either shut off the upgrade notice or get the upgrade to work.
