LinkStation Mini (LS-WSGL) Auto Power Mode Issue

I bought a LinkStation Mini recently. Setup ended well and I started working with LinkStation Mini without any problem. I updated NAS Navigator to v.2.11 and Firmware to 1.05. When this work was finished I switched a LinkStation Mini to Auto Power Mode. LinkStation waked-up at computer boot and then, 2-3 minutes after, it powered down by itself. Further, LinkStation waked-up itself 2-3 minutes later going in this yo-yo mode. When it is On, I can access the unit with the Nas Navigator, and I can browse to it using the web GUI and etc.

I have Windows Vista Business installed, as well as ZoneAlarm Security Suit 7.1 and VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i. As I already mention the Nas Navigator 2.11 was installed and booted automatically with Windows. My home network based on simple ADLS-Router with 5 ports. LinkStation connected to one of them. IP address managed by DHCP automatically (nevertheless the manual IP assignment is not change the effect).

I am tried already hard reset – it was not help.

Pease help if somebody has experience with this kind effect.

If you put the device on manual power mode then does it work?

IUR

Yes, if I put the "power mode" switch in position "On" (you mean "manual"), the unit works correctly.

Paul

I will test this, during the week and report my findings to buffalo corp..

thanks

I am having trouble with my LinkStation Mini and my wireless laptop.

In Auto mode it seems to power down even when the laptop is connected (actively open a file on the drive)

The Mini once powered down does not want to come back online.

Now if I have my desktop machine up and running or the LinkStation Mini in ON mode instead of AUTO everything works fine all the time.  It seems to me that in AUTO mode wireless stations are somehow being igorned and the unit shuts down.

I am not sure what to do, so for the last week I have kept it running in ON mode, but sure would like to get the benifit of AUTO mode.

Is there any fix for wireless pc's and the mini powering down when there are NO hardwired machines attached to the router running?

Same here.... In auto mode, it just shuts down after some time even if NasNavi (2.11) is running on the laptop. When I walk over to the unit and turn the switch from Auto to On it comes back again and I can access it as normal. There are no firewalls to stop access etc.

I also have the same problem on "Auto Power Mode". It switched off even during files transfert.

It works normally on "ON".

Ditto.  Same for me except that I have a LinkStation Pro Duo.  It works fine except on all my Windows XP machines, but not on my VIsta laptop when connected wirelessly (works fine if connected by LAN cable, but that's not what I want).

Hi all,

I can also report the same problem. With a wireless Lapop, Vista Business with Zone Alarm the Link Station Mini automatically shuts doen after several minutes in auto mode. It starts properly after Laptop Startup, but then turns down without any reason.

Would be great if anyone could come up with a solution as I also want to use the auto mode in a proper way (I'm quite sure that this was also the original intention ....).

Thanks to all and best regards

I've got also the same problem under Mac OSx.

Buffalo LInkstation mini with last release 1.06

When I startup my Macbook pro, the linkstation mini stay sleeping.

But when I start my Windows XP laptop, the linkstation wakeup.

Buffalo, is there a fix for this problem ?

Is there any solution to wake up linkstation mini in auto mode from OS X leopard ?

regards.

Is anyone from Buffalo monitoring this thread?  Paul?  Any chance someone can look into the auto power issues?  There are a bunch of other threads out there with the same issue (some are for different models but the same problem).  Obviouosly this is not an isolated problem.

I just bought a LinkStation Live (LS-CHL1.0TL), the Auto Power does not get wake up via other laptops on the wireless network. It does get wake up with a PC via LAN line straight to my router.  So, it seems, the bug is in the wireless connections, not able to wake up the sleepy giant ;-)

The "keep alive" packets that are sent to the LS to keep it powered on can only be received wired through our findings thus far. If you have an entirely wireless network then I would advise keeping the unit switched to ON (Manual) mode. If you have a computer that is hardwired to the same router as the LS you can install the utilities included on the disk there and that should keep the LS alive until that unit is shut down. We are looking into a solution for a dedicated wireless network at the moment but currently there is no workaround for this. The utility as I understand should work for Mac but once again the OS can differ so it is being looked into. Thank you for your patience.

Hi Dustrega,

You may want to have a look at the rest of this thread and also search out other postings in the forums for the same problem.  I think you may be incorrect about the auto power feature not working in a wireless network.  Many people report that it works with some wireless PCs but not all.  I too have one wired PC and three wireless laptops in my network.  Two of the wireless laptops send "keep alive" packets and work just fine. These are running Windows XP.  The culprit in my network is a laptop running Vista.  Perhaps the issue is Vista and Mac OS??
