Keep having to re-install firmware on my Linkstation Duo

Hello all

My LinkStation worked fine until I clicked on 'clear squeezebox cache' because of reliability problems with it as a squeezebox server. After doing this the unit crashed and when rebooted was in EM mode.

I downloaded LSUpdater (v 1.69) and here is the problem: I run the updater and it works, my LinkStation reboots one time and I can access the RAID to read and write files. However, the blue light flashes continuously (which should only happen during boot-up and shutdown I think?). When I then shutdown and restart again the unit is back in EM mode and I have to reinstall the firmware again. I don;t understand how the unit can reboot successfully once, but the next time be back in EM mode.

Any suggestions for what the problem could be and how I might fix it?

Thanks

So there's no solution and I should throw the unit away? That seems a real shame, as it functions perfectly except going into EM mode every other time it's booted. Is anyone from Buffalo technical support able to help with this? Is there a separate contact for them that I should be using?

Thanks.

You could have a bad drive, a issue with the unit, or maybe its how the power is connected. where is the power plugged in to?

Hi Joma

Thanks for the reply. The unit is plugged into the mains. It is set to wake-on-LAN.

Did you setup the email notifications on the unit? If so do you get a email that shows Disk0-3 and gives a number after?

Also here are a few other suggestions

Did you disable the squeezebox feature yet?

You might want to do a Restore that will erase all the settings and not delete your data. To see if that might fix the issue. Installing the firmware should only update and not restore files. Make sure you read what you click one does delete your data vs the other just resets the settings.

Thanks for the reply Joma, and sorry for my tardy response.

The problem kind of fixed itself: after going around the 'reinstall firmware it boots once fine then into EM the next time' loop numerous times, it then resynched the array and from then on has been absolutely fine. I have squeezebox turned off, but since it has been working OK for a couple of weeks I decided I would try to get to the bottom of why there seems to be this problem with Squeezebox server (which, afterall, the unit did come installed with so I think I can reasonably expect it to work). However as soon as I did that we were back into the EM cycle again, so I disabled the server again.

I might try the 'Restore' option and enable Squeezebox server once more to see whether it will function properly. If not I guess I'll have to look for another unit that can offer this functionality.

Thanks for all your help so far.

PS I tried to set up the email messaging but it doesn't work. I get the message 'message has being successfully sent' but there is no record of the email either in sending account or in the receiving address (i.e. it doesn't arrive).
