Set MySQL datadir on Linkstation?

I'm trying to point to a directory on an LS220D2FA drive to use as MySQL data directory.

Buffalo NAS keeps refusing MySQL's connection (10061 error: Buffalo sees the connection request but refuses it). I have MYSQL56 and NETWORKSERVICES set up as users and MySQL set up as a group.

Every other computer on the network speaks nicely to the Buffalo. MySQL Workbench runs if I point to a datadir on C:.

Does anybody know what I'm missing? :-[

Thanks in advance.
