admin password not working; FW version 0.00

All,

after some time with my LS-CHL-V2 unused it is back in action with family demand across mac and PC platforms.
At least in intent, that is. I am faced with two problems:

The default admin password is not accepted, and the FW version is in NAS Navigator 2 ver. 2.81 reported as 0.00.  I never changed the factory settings.

I cannot update before i have the pwd.....

I have tried factory reseting and the LS recovery tools from http://www.mediafire.com/download/p6d4x7575xmpgv2/LSRecovery.zip. The tools reported fail, and the status did not change.

I have previously upgraded firmware several times over the course of time, but now I am at a dead end.

The HDD info is reported correctly in the Navigator tool.

Ideas and proposals are highly valued.
