failed to sync with ntp server

I have a LinkStation LS210D0401.  Every time I run NAS Navigator 2, no linkstations are found until I hit "Refresh", at which point I get a message that the time is off on the linkstation, and asking if I want to set it to my PC's time.

I do that, but the clock goes way off very quickly (within minutes or hours).  If I create a folder on the NAS the timestamp will be far in the past (e.g. 11/01/2007).  I have updated to the latest firmware (1.62).  Using the Settings for the station and editing the time settings to use pool.ntp.org or another local time server that I frequently use results in:
"failed to sync with ntp server, settings have been changed".  Reverting back to the default time server (ntp.jst.mfeed.ad.jp) results in the same error.

Searching for "failed to sync with ntp server" here nets zero results, so it seems to just be me.

Am I correct in assuming that the linkstation is just a miniature Linux PC?  I.e. I could ssh to it and have at the time settings?  Or is there something obvious I'm missing?

Thank you.

Duh.    :-[

Changed the option to use ntp with a time server to use the PC's local time in Settings (which, I assume, is what happens when you tell NAS Navigator to set the clock with the PC's local time) and for the past 48 hours it's been fine.
