I got on E-bay a diskless Buffalo TeraStation TS-XE2.0TL-R5, and now i am confused... it's the total limit 2Tb with 4x500 mb or i can use bigger drives.

You can use bigger drives. I believe the biggest is 2TB per drive. If you are going to add four 2TB drives you need to do the following. Backup your date first if its not backuped yet because you need to delete the array which will delete the data.

Once that is done and all the disk are separate meaning they are not in a array. You will power off the unit. replace disk 4, power on unit. go to hard disk, format disk, make sure disk is showing and is formatted. You will then repeat to each of the other disk going from 3 to 2 to 1. Once all the disk are 2TB and all of them are formatted, you can create the array back to whatever you had it at and them move your data back over.
