My 1TB Linkstaion died after I attempted to move a sizable folder to another folder on the device. The device then flashed a blue light at the top at me until I powered it down and back up. However the NasNavi now says the device is in EM Mode and I cannot access it. I cant lose the data on the device, does anyone know a fix?

PCPiranha

Just flash the latest firmware to it.

TonNevig

Yeah thats not my first choice, this is the message that it get when I try...

"Couldn't confirm that a partion exists on the TARGET.
Updater will format the TARGET and will update the TARGET.
***All of the data will be lost***

Do you want to format and update the TARGET?

Yes / NO

If I can find a way to do this, can the drive be removed from the case and a sata to usb cable be used to recover the data?

PCPiranha

Removing the HDD will void your warranty unfortunately.

TonNevig

True, but after the thing dies after trying to move files I will never trust it again for use. I would rather just recover the data. If i can salvage the drive I will give it to a friend to horse around with. If salvaging the data destroy the drive so be it, its really not worth much at this point to me.

PCPiranha

You can try using UFS explorer.  Its a software program that specializes in RAID recovery.

While I understand that you are frusterated, understand that all data should be backed up in several locations.  Hard drive failure is one of the most common technical problems with any NAS product

I will give that app a try, I wasnt aware the Linkstation Live was a dual drive system though.

As for data retention I do understand that. However this device boasts BT. So the data was created there first. And I was trying to back up up when it died.

Open the Unit.

Hook it up to a Linux computer or computer running fedora.

You should be able to see your disks in 3 partitions.

One of them is where you store your data.

TonNevig

Well I saw the drives partitions briefly. However only one had files on it the others listed a "File0" (or close thereof) file. Now I can't get it to pull anything. the Ubuntu box says it cant mount the image and the windows ext3 recover tool indactes the drive is empty. I am working with brick tech arn't I?
