JPG filename causes media devices not to display thumbnail

I'm using a Buffalo LS220D and I have a movie called 'Planes.mkv'. To display the thumbnail on DLNA clients I store in the same directory a cover art photo called 'Planes.jpg'. I have a WDTV Media player connected to a Panasonic TV and an LG Smart TV in another room.

When the file names are as stated the thumbnails display ok but when the files are renamed to 'Planes (2013).mkv' and 'Planes (2013).jpg both the WD and LG refuse to display the thumbnail. Any ideas why?

try with out the space between "s" and "(". That space could be the whole issue. Alot of devices hate spaces.

I didn't mention that I'm using 'WDTV Live Hub Auto Generator' which renames the movie and adds a jpg and an xml file. The renaming uses a template so I removed its () characters and I no longer have the problem even with spaces. Originally, the movie would be renamed as 'movie (year)' so now it renames as 'movie - year'. WDTV Media does not use the xml information which is an undesirable feature.
