LS-WXL damaged by power outage, how can I recover my data?

Hi All,

I have been wrestling with my LS-WXL now for about 6 hours now. I've read through all the FAQs and several other forums and I haven't made an inch of progress. Just a blinking power light.

I've tried booting into EM mode. I have just recently failed at the tftp procedure. Multiple attempts and permutations of these procedures. The console just sits there listening but the NAS doesn't seem to query it. I've come to accept the NAS is dead, but I'm worried about my data. I have so many photos on this thing.

I had it set up as a 500GB RAID mirror, I pulled 1 of the drives and stuck into a USB dock, hoping I could just transfer the data off. But instead I was presented with several drive letters, none of which are formatted in a way that can be recognized by Win7. All I get are prompts to reformat. I tried the other drive, same.

I doubt I'll invest anymore time trying to recover the whole NAS. At this point, my primary concern is the data. How can I get the data off one of these drives with the NAS busted?

WhyMe

Any resolution to this?  I have exactly the same problem.

I have a LS-WX6L in 3T RAID1 configuration.  The unit reported it was running in degraded mode due to too many bad sectors on a drive. In a moment of apparent stupidity I decided to run the Disk Check function despite the warnings that this takes a long time.  The webpage at this point was still accessible, but just reported that the drive was being checked or formatted (nice message btw).  This went on for multiple days.  I finally decided to cycle power on it, after which I'm in the same boat as described by the OP.

Blue Power LED flashes rapidly.
No webpage is being served by it.
Pings OK.
NAS Navigator cannot find it.
No activity on the Function LED.
Info/Error LED blinks 1-2 (operating in degraded mode)

I'm assuming I'll be able to recover this data since one drive was still good.  However, I'm concerned that the Buffalo software has gone rouge or is corrupt and may be destroying my good drive (this is not unfounded).

Did you or anyone else reading this find a solution?

UPDATE:  I gave up on fixing the Buffalo since it's been nothing but trouble since the beginning.  I instead pulled the good drive and inserted it into my newly built file server. I used UFS Explorer (www.ufsexplorer.com) to read the data to new superior Western Digital drives.  I then destroyed the failed Buffalo drive and put the remaining Buffalo drive in a drawer for safe keeping.  As for the Buffalo case?  I'm making it into a flower pot.

Done with Buffalo... unless I see a class action suit come up.
