I have a Linkstation Pro LS-V2.0TL. The NAS Navigator can see it and it shows a 169 IP address. It gives you a warning it is in Emergency Mode and that you need to upgrade the firmware. This is the 3rd time it has bricked when you have to upgrade firmware (dumbest idea ever BTW). This time I just can't connect to it at all even with changing to a direct ethernet connection from laptop to NAS and setting a static IP to 192.168.11.1 on the laptop and having the IP of NAS to 192.168.11.150.

I have tried the Kirkwood TFTP boot exe (as well as a number of others) and it never gets past the "accepting requests" . I have disabled firewall and antivirus with LAN IP set to the 192.168.11.1. Tried the reset button at the correct time of the process too which is difficult to do now the drive is outside the enclosure. Tried safe mode, reboots etc. all without luck. I tried the 1.68 firmware update for what it said was my version on the Buffalo site. When it runs it says it can't find a LS-GL to upgrade - I don't have a LS-GL.

What am I doing wrong? I have been following the steps from this link 0 http://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=10185.0

Hi,

After you establish a connection to your NAS running TFTP Boot.exe then confirm your LS-VL has the IP address 192.168.11.150, then run LSUpdater.exe which comes with the latest firmware update 1.68. You can download from the following link...

http://www.buffalotech.com/support-and-downloads/downloads

and search firmware for LS-V2.0TL...

So if your not getting the accepting request, you might need to try another pc if you already tried in safe mode and that didnt work. If you downloaded the tftp or firmware on a wireless connection. Delete the files and redownload on a wired connection. I have seen the LS-GL message you are talking about a long time ago. Cant remember what i did to fix it, but if i was having this issue. I would get another pc, redownload all the files. and try again.

below is my files i use. That TFTP is the kirkwood but i just renamed it to know what model it applies to.

after a successful TFTP boot connect the Linkstation to a network with a dhcp server. It will grab an IP on that network. Then run link station firmware updater from a computer on that same network. Sometimes the firmware update will fail, just TFTP boot it again and it should finish the firmware update. Download the manual so you can interpret the led flash codes.
