Problem swapping drive on LS-WXL

I have my Linkstation set up in a RAID 1 configuration, and it recently started reporting an error on disk 2, so I ordered a replacement drive and swapped it in.  When I restarted the Linkstation, both of the disks showed up with status "removed" in the web interface, and when I selected the RAID array, it didn't give me the option to rebuild it.  When I swapped the old disk back in, everything looked fine again, and it's trying to rebuild the array.  Any idea why it's having trouble with the new disk?  Both disks are 1TB WD disks, but the new one is the "red" version, rather than the "green" one that was in there before.  That shouldn't matter, should it?
