LS-XL066 backup software issue

I have been able to copy files to this drive without any issue so I know it works. The only odd thing is I don't need a password just a username to access the share.  This is where I think my problem is. I tried running the bundled backup software and even tried its free update but I kept on getting the same error that pointed to a doc about setting a user in the disaster service. But that never worked. So I tried the windows backup software. Couldn't get that to log on to network share. Would should  do?
I am running windows 7 64 and tried the latest version of nova backup and windows backup.
