I just purchases an LS421DE and am having problems setting it up.  I have installed a HDD wth data on it, connected it to my router.  I installed the NAS Navigator2 software from the accompanying CD on my Win8.1 laptop.  When I start Navigator2, it sees the nas.  I then right click it and het the following options: [Properties, Map Share, Disconnect Share, Create Desktop Shortcut], there is no settings option, yet the manual tells me to go to the settings option.

STOOOOOOOOP!

A NAS is NOT just an External Enclosure like you have with USB devices, it has its own OS to run the NAS function! The unit formats all drives inserted into the unit in order to install the NAS OS upon it! (you can find this in the TINY text on the reverse side of the Quick Start Guide)

Remove data from drives or insert blank drives, THEN when in EM Mode (QSG instructions here), simply press the button on the front, then walk away for 10-15min!

No, not too late. Have been away from the box for the last week, will follow the instructions above over the weekend and give it a try.

eh, first, your welcome!, no-one likes to have to fork out $$$$ for data recovery!

Second, I think being "more helpful" is an understatement, and third, I would not classify you as a dimwit at all... its TINY, LEGAL, OTHERSIDE text...

It reminds me of that "can't hit the broad side of a barn" saying, in this case your problem is you where standing in front expecting the marksman to hit the mark... but he actually managed to hit the metaphorical "board side"

Cheers!
