Running Vista SP1. Installed with ESATA card and cable to main machine.

When I right click to get to options and go to "Share," the top "share" is greyed out and only the advanced features are shown. I've given full permission to all users and have rebooted both machines.

I want to back up another computer over the wireless network.

What am I missing?

TIA

Does it work with USB?

I will do more research here, I have not seen this issue before.

stevedell

I don't have anymore USB ports. I am using ESATA for speed. I have loads and loads of photos to move and back up.

Paul

I understand, however this test is for trouble shooting purposes only.  (not a workaround)

stevedell

If i hook up via USB, I assume I don't connect the ESATA cable. Same if I did it via Firewire?

Paul

Correct, this is to see if you computer has a problem with ESATA or the hard drive in general.

If I create a folder on the drive, I can share that. I can't share the root directory apparently.

Sharing the folder is really what I wanted.
