Can't login to web admin (TS Pro II rack)

Hello

I'm unable to login to the web admin controls for my TS-RH1.0TGL/R5.  I can, however, write to and access all the drive contents across my LAN as if there was no problem.  This is "kind-of" fine in the short term - but I really need to be able to access the web admin to run my backups.

When I try to log on to the web admin controls (using ie7 from both XP SP2 and Vista [home premium x64 and x86] PC's which have previously worked without problem), using the default "admin"/"password" credentials (ahem) which I never got around to changing (ahem)), I get an error saying either the username or password is incorrect.  However, when I use NASNavigator2 I can change IP address and get the device to respond to a "I'm here" request, using the same credentials.  I haven't changed any other of my network settings (not knowingly anyway).

The other "unusual" behaviours are:

-  since the problem started, the front display panel displays the current link speed but gives no other information - including the array/drive status - even when I press the display button that would normally cycle through the various status info.

- I seem to recall, that before this problem started, all four of the drive activity lights would light simultaneously (the device is set in RAID5, so if I understand things correctly, this is what I would expect to see).  At the moment they appear to be lighting more erratically (sometimes singly, in pairs, in triplets or all at once).

-  A couple of months ago, we had a fault on one of the drives (possibly caused by a power outage), which ultimately, via a lengthly rebuild of the RAID array, seemed to fix itself.  This drive and the array appear to be working correctly at present. This may, or may not, be relevant as there does not appear to be any unusal activity or lack of activity associated with the previously problem drive.

I don't know what version of the firmware I was on when the problem manifested itself but, in the course of trying to resolve this, I've flashed up to v1.33, and back down to v1.24 (and back up again).  As far as I can tell the firmware changes have taken successfully, although they have not cured the problem as described above.

Although I have almost everything backed up elsewhere, I'm reluctant to force a reformating of the drives as, as far as I can tell anyway, my RAID array is still intact, and that the problem lies elsewhere... so i guess my questions are

  - would reformating the drives be likely to help ?

  - firmware updates don't seem to have cured the problem - is there anything else I could try ?

thanks

Are there any type of script blocking/malware countermeasure software that is operating? The reason I ask is because I've seen Norton block users from accessing the GUI. To answer your questions though I would suggest reformatting as a last resort. Also, have you tried the force firmware update procedures found http://forums.buffalotech.com/buffalo/board/message?board.id=0101&message.id=277#M277" target="_blank">here when updating to 1.33 and checking the 'Delete User Config' option? Might be a possibility.

not that I know of.  We use bullguard and as far as know none ofthe settings changed at the onset of the problem.  Following an exchange with buffalo tech support (UK)  we worked through the various options on the force firmwall update, including the delete user config option.  Ultimately though we've ended up reformatting.  We had everything backed up, thankfully, and I'm now in the process of putting all the files back on.

Thanks for the suggestion though - if it happens again I'll bear your suggestion in mind.
