BR-816SU2 won't play a number of DVDs and Blu-Rays

My Mediastation 8x External Blu-Ray drive, model number BR-816SU2, won't play a number of the DVDs and Blu-Rays I own. The most common error I get when I try to play them is that I get a notification that my drive is not set to the right region for the media. However, when I try to change the region as prompted, the region for DVDs remains in Region 2, and the amount of times I can change regions does not go down. I have already tried to update the firmware from 1.00 to 1.02, but this hasn't done anything to help. If someone could help me figure out what I need to do to fix this as soon as possible, I would appreciate it.
