LS-CHL firmware

The last firmware released for the ls-chl NAS drives from Buffalo Norht America was version 1.60 back in July 2012.
It was quite possibly the worst firmware for the product with many users in these forumns voicing their dissatisfaction with it.
In fact many users reverted to firmware 1.57 or 1.58

This week I was surprised to find that Buffalo Europe have continued to release firmware updates for the ls-chl drives at fairly regular intervals over the past year and is now up to version 1.68.
I installed this onto my LS-CH500L and was pleasantly surprised to find it fixed up most of the problems evident in firmware 1.60 (particularly those assoc with the twonky server)

Is there any particular reason Buffalo USA hasn't continued to release firmware updates for this product? It just seems as though it has been abandoned in this market.

Cant speak for buffalo but here is a possibility from things i have seen. Europe has been keeping good at updating the firmware to there discontinued products vs USA. Either way the firmware you are using is base off the kirkwood firmwares so you can get the firmware from the LS-WVL and use that but only if your unit is V2. if it doesn't state v2 then you cant. you can see in the release notes what models this is for. So just keep that in mind you can go the the USA buffalo site and go to any one of the units and get the firmware. :)

actually, the European site is very good in making it clear just which ls-chl units this firmware is for

i know im just stating this for anyone that reads it.. there are other people on the forums with similar questions. If they have the LS-CHL V2 and they want the latest firmware they can go to the LS-WVL or LS-WXL, or LS-XL or LS-VL and download it. USA shows V2 and V1 firmwares but hasnt updated them for whatever reason they have... not really a good reason i can think of beside them stating its discontinued.
