Just rebooted (10 minutes ago) and brought the NAS Navigator 2 up and things *seemed* right.  But came to this sight because I have been getting this message and while typing subject it popped up.

What might be causing this and does this mean that the drive is dying?  It is direct connected to the router and has been running well for almost a year (wow a whole year :) ).

I have a lot of stuff on it and if this is a killer please let me know (i bet it isn't a happy message).

Igbar, you should ALWAYS have a backup - that LS-X is a single hard drive and you are one hardware failure away from 100% loss of that data.

Communication error could be any number of things, including a marginal hard drive, or a loose network cable, or a dodgy port on your switch. Back up your data, and update your firmware, and check all your connections.
**A single copy of data, even on a RAID array, is NOT a backup! Hard drive failure is not a question of IF, but WHEN! Don't take my word for it, take Google's!**

You are of course right and i really do have about 95% backed up (though the way data is 100% is hard to have :) ).  I have tried a secondary port but will also try new cable (though really doubt that is a problem).  I believe i have the most current firmware.  I will start searching again for the firmware area.

Thanks

And again thanks .. it appears there have been updates to the firmware and navigator.  Although I will get a new drive to copy to i hope the updates take care of the problem.
