I just wanted to share the problem I faced and the solution I found.
I have my TeraStation set up behind my Cisco ASA5505.
I created the NAT policies and services.
I opened ports 21, 22, and 9000 and verified the ports were forwarding packets.
I was unable to register the TeraStation with buffalonas.com it consistently came back saying it couldn't find buffalonas.com.
I opened the firewall for all ports and attempted the registration, once it registered I closed it back down to 21, 22, and 9000.
All seems happy now.

I spent a lot of time on the phone with Buffalo Tech support including tier 2 they swear up and down that all they need is port 9000. I really wish I had enabled monitoring on that MAC address so I had more to share but here we are. I hope this can help.
