Hello all,

I have purchased a Linkstation Duo LS-WX4.0TL/R1. I want to use the included Download for Novastor to run backups to the NAS.

So, I used the serial # provided to download Novastor to a Windows 8 laptop. I went to install, and was greeted with an incompatible OS error message.

Am I just missing the download link for Windows 8 on the Buffalo support page, or has the link not been updated?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a slightly different model than you, but I had same issue.

You need to call/contact Novastor and buy an upgrade. The software version included with the NAS (v13.x for me) won't work on Win 8.

It takes version 14.5 at a minimum if I remember correctly, and version 15 was just released.

But you should be able to get Upgrade pricing (from $25 to $50 per-seat-license depending on which option you take).

Thanks for the reply SideWinder!

However, this is kind of lame, no?

Buffalo advertises ON THE BOX that the Linkstation is compatible with Windows 8.

Shouldn't that mean that the software contained inside should be as well?

Send it back and buy a different product. Buffalo will not be interested in helping. Novastor is not that good anyway & very slow. Better off with SyncToy (which is free download from Microsoft) unless you want compressed backup images.

Well, the Linkstation itself is "compatible" with Win 8.x, in that Win 8.x can connect to it just like Win 7 would. But it appears that Buffalo's deal with Novastor was for the one particular version they included (which does work fine on Win 7), so I can't lay this at Novastor's feet.

I'd be more inclined to blame Buffalo's marketing department for putting that sticker on the box without checking with their engineers about it first.

SyncToy was a horrible recommendation. FreeFileSync is way better then SyncToy. Plus Novastor can do disaster recovery and syntoy cannot. if you want something like NovaStor but you don't like NovaStor then get acronis, though now you have to pay for it. From what i understand is when the unit is release they pay a fee for the current Novastor licence out. If you wanted the newer version then it would make sense to pay a upgrade fee.
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,

I don't work for Buffalo but i do love there products enough to help people
