My Scenario-   Linkstation had static IP address..  on 10.0.0.X network..  Switched to new network provider 192.168.1.X..  Forgot password to LinkStation and could not reset password via NasNavigator because did not have correct admin password..

First Tried to reset Linkstation following instructions in user manual...  page 21..  "initialization"   Did not work...  tried twice...

Then went to Forums and Found LSRecovery.   (To connect to NAS have to be on same network.. 10.0.0.X, worked that out..) .  Attempted using LSRecovery tool...  did not work.. and said aborted (tried 3 times...)

Read on another post when doing Step 3 of "initialization" to hold function button 30 seconds instead of 6 seconds.....
So I tried the initialization again....  did as instructed in manual..after 6 seconds took finger off function button for 2 seconds then depressed function button again  for 30 seconds during  "initialization"...

Then logged onto Nas Navigator again and low and behold the system had reset to default...Yippee..

So my feedback it is that holding the function button longer does indeed "re-Initialize" the unit..

Good luck!
