LS 410 & USB - no data

I had a 2gb linkstation Pro that went belly up. It was my uncompressed drive of my music collection, which I had been backing up to a 2gb WD usb drive attached to it.

After reading of issues with what i had, I decided on  the 410.

Well - the setup is not as easy as the Linkstation Pro was, and worse than that, when I connect the USB drive, it appears in the drive list as unformatted! I am worried, as that was the backup I was going to restore to the NAS unit. I am way out of my depth on these units, and frankly am worried that I lost everything.

when I hook up the USB to my mac, it shows as a linux format, but I can't mount it. I really want to see what is on it, and how i can get it to the new NAS unit.... Would getting another Linkstation Pro have been the right thing to do? I would have though that fle formats, etc would have been the same....

Please - any suggestions are gratefully accepted!!

Do you know what file format the USB HDD was formatted to? Was it EXT3 or XFS?

Sorry for the delay. I actually was giving up any hope.

Well - I can say this much. I had a previous Linkstation Pro 2TB unit - LS-V2.0TL, from which I was backing up to the WD USB unit successfully for the life of the LS-V2.0TL unit. I honestly can't recall the format. What I can see through Disk Utility, is that it shows up as a Linux drive, I can't mount it.

Sorry - that is all I have. And having a Mac in this case sucks because everything is geared towards windows use.

After a long delay, I was able to have a friend of mine work on getting the files from the USB drive copied to the LS-410... I believe the format was ext3, but honestly, at the time I was only concerned with getting the files over to the NAS unit.

We did this with a simple drag and drop, after we managed with much frustration, to get both mounted on his Linux system! He never believed that it would by by choosing a windows share.

So I got the LS-410 and WD USB drive back home. My Mac can mount the LS-410, and my library is there - so far so good. But I STILL cannot get the USB drive available as a backup drive. It shows up as I formatted!

I am so disappointed. The old Linkstation pro I had was so easy to use. There also does not seem to be any info out here about this.

Anyone who has had and solved this, I would dearly appreciate it. It just does not make any sense!
