LS421DE can't start TwonkyServer 7.1.1-dsd (DLNA is not working)

I am using LS421DE, one of the Buffalo's latest LinkStation 400 series.

DLNA feature is not working on my LS421DE, and a connection to TCP 9050 port is failure.

The factory-installed firmware version is 1.11-0.68, and that is up-to-date.

$ cat /etc/nas_feature | grep DLNA_SERVER
SUPPORT_DLNA_SERVER=on
DLNA_SERVER="twonky"

I've checked /var/log/dlnaserver.log via SSH. Below is repeated several times.

[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : *** Starting TwonkyServer (Product Name:Twonky, Version:7.1.1-dsd, Build-date:Apr 17 2013) ***
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : using logfile /var/log/dlnaserver.log
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : Executable file: /usr/local/twonky/twonkyserver
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : Command Line Parameters: 6
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : cmdline 1:-utf8
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : cmdline 2:-inifile
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : cmdline 3:/usr/local/twonky/twonkymedia-server.ini
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : cmdline 4:-appdata
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : cmdline 5:-logfile
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: server_main_impl : cmdline 6:/var/log/dlnaserver.log
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: upnp_ini_file_init_DATA_Dir : AppData folder - /var/twonky/TwonkyServer - cannot be accessed or not writable.
[Startup] - LOG_SYSTEM: Error: 2 No such file or directory

But I can't find both /usr/local/twonky/twonkymedia-server.ini and /var/twonky/TwonkyServer.

According to /etc/init.d/twonky.sh, MS_INI is either /usr/local/twonky/twonkymedia-server.ini or /etc/melco/twonkymedia-server.ini (if /usr/local/twonky-alt exists, but not).
And twonkymedia-server.ini(MS_INI) should be copied from twonkyserver-default.ini(MS_DEF_INI) in the same directory.

But I can't find any copy command from MS_DEF_INI to MS_INI, whereas there is gen_twonkymedia_default_ini() which generates MS_DEF_INI.

I think it's simple but critical bug as DLNA-enable NAS.
I can't do nothing to resolve this issue, because I don't have root permission.

Is there any other solution to enable DLNA feature on my LS421DE?

Have you tired a factory reset or force firmware update with the same firmware? Also good luck with getting the root password. Buffalo won't give you that. To me it sounds like the firmware didn't install correctly and you just have to find a way to correct that by re-installing the firmware.

To reinstall the firmware follow the FAQ 2 of 5 and use the firmware from the Buffalotech site.
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,

I don't work for Buffalo but i do love there products enough to help people

I've already tried a factory reset and force firmware update, but I'm frustrated that nothing is resolved.

you can try rolling back a firmware and see if that might re-install twonkey server. If you go to ipaddress:9050, that doesn't load up correct or does it?

Yeah, I retry to reinstall a firmware again, but TCP 9050 is still not listening.

Tested on 7.1.1-dsd on the same unit and twonky server (NAS-IP:9050) loaded without issue, obviously i had the DLNA server enabled via the main admin page.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebsireland.com and we will get it fixed!

Have i helped you? Buy me a coffee as a thanks!

Hi,
I got same problem that suddenly my Samsung 40" LED's DNLA was not detecting my LS421DE NAS and was showing NAS MyTwonky Library with no files. I tried a lot of things, wrote mail to Buffalo but all in vain so decided to work upon my self.

What I did, I just typed <NAS IP Address>:9000/#sharing.... in my case 192.168.1.105:9000/#sharing and found out the shared folder was not identified. I gone to setting, and reset the NAS setting and rebooted my NAS and again typed 192.168.1.105:9000/#sharing ... it took me to buffallo WebAccess interfave which was ... http://192.168.1.105:9000/ui/#/ ....
Login with your admin id and password and you will find shared folder open....
Check the Samsung TV and DNLA identified the NAS.

All the best.
