Hi,

I recently purchased a Linkstation LS410D0201 in Japan. Originally I wanted a LinkStation LS-VP but for some reason the Japanese retailers only had LS410D and LS-XL in stock. Anyway, I bought the LS410D 2 TB model and so far so good, I'm quite happy with my purchase.

However, I'm a little bit concerned about the power management of this unit. Other linkstation models have the "Standby mode" in the power switch, but the LS410D has no such mode. Also, in the web interface there is no settings about power management or similar stuff.

Can anyone please answer these questions:

a) If the unit is ON all the time then the hard this is spinning constantly?

b) It is safe to have the unit ON all the time? Will this reduce the life of the hard disk?

c) Will Buffalo implement any kind of power management for this unit with firmware upgrades? Or even better, has the unit some undocumented power management features already?

Thank you very much in advance.

davo

a). Yes
b). Yes
c). Only Buffalo development can answer this. As it stands it has no power management features at all.

Thanks Davo, your answers are very useful. I tried to look for information about this unit in nas-central but apparently is so recent nobody has investigated it yet.

Also, the LS510D units are quite more expensive than their LS-VL counterparts, so I'm quite surprised LS510D have no power management features (yet). The main difference seems to be that LS510D are much faster than LS-VL, but has less features.

Thanks a lot again.
